About Us

Did you know that our Market has been in Bishops Waltham since 1948 – we are really pleased to be celebrating our 70th birthday this year!

A brilliant way to ‘shop local’, the market provides high quality, home-made produce made by the team of people who are members of the market. We love to see our regular customers and extend a warm welcome to new shoppers. Everyone is very welcome to come in for a browse, we hope you find something that tempts you! If you can’t find quite the thing you were looking for at our market, let us know – we are happy to take requests!

The produce we have on offer varies from week to week so if there is an item that you would particularly like, let us know. We happily take orders so that you are guarantee the items that you would like.

Last year we were lucky enough to be able to move our market into the Gold Room at the Jubilee Hall. This room is lovely and airy and gives us plenty of space to showcase all the wonderful crafts we have on sale, and there’s more room for the wonderful selection of plants which is particularly extensive during the spring and summer months. This is all alongside our range of delicious home-cooked savouries and cakes of course.

Our location also has given us the space for our market cafe, something which is going from strength to strength. We aim to provide a lovely sociable space to enjoy a very reasonably priced tea or coffee. There is also a complimentary taster of cake with your drink. Whether you are taking a well earned rest from your shopping or meeting with friends we couldn’t be happier when people pop by. There is plenty of room for buggies in the hall, people with children are more than welcome. We keep our biscuit tin well-stocked for our youngest visitors!

Our producers and helpers love being a part of our weekly markets, and the social element of the market is important to us all. If you love baking, growing or crafting we are always looking for new producers, please feel free to come and introduce yourself at one of our markets, we’d be delighted to meet you and give you more information about becoming a producer.

The catering arm of our organisation  has been running since 2013 and has become an important asset to our business. The diversity of events we have been asked to cater for seems to be forever increasing and our producers also enjoy providing hands on help, staffing events on request. For more information about our catering service see our Catering page.

Bishops Waltham Country Market is just one of the wider Country Markets network of over 450 local markets in England, Wales and the Channel Islands. Country Markets Ltd is a nationwide friendly co-operative enterprise, previously known as WI Markets. It is a non profit-making organisation – after expenses, all proceeds are returned to the producers. Part of the charm of our organisation is that of course each market is individual, in both the variety of produce on offer and the specialities of the Producers in that area. For more information about other Country Markets, please see our Links page.

Each Market is individually managed at local level by a committee elected by the members and is overseen by the county Market (in our case, Hampshire Country Market).

The county Market is run by a committee formed from members of the local Market Management Representatives, and all Markets have to comply with legal requirements and the stringent high standards set by Head Office. All cooks must have an up-to-date Food Hygiene Certificate.

Please enjoy browsing our website, or even better, stop by one Friday morning and say hello!
